That's sounds quite interesing actually! Don't know if I've got time to implement it right yet though. Also, most of these political ideologies didn't exist in 1850(not that the map is 100% accurate). However, I think that the main concern in the political aspect of the game is diplomacy, which you will have to play amongst eachother. I could add a function where you can proclaim garantuee and warn other countries not to go to war, that way there'll be some new "Casus bellis" here and there. It's yet another possibility inspired by Europa Universalis! ^^

Here's also a list of commands I thought could be useful. Remember that more than one commands is available per day:
  • Decler war against Country - Declears war against selected country

    Garantuee Country - Garantuees selected country. If anyone attack that country you'll gain a Casus Belli against the attacker.

    Warn Country - Warns selected country not to go to war with anyone. If they still do, you'll gain a Casus Belli against them.

The black regions are just to show how far you can view without any leader.

White lines/curves = Troops walk straight there. If enemies come to a region you've just left, no fighting will accure.
Black lines/curves = Blockades! No enemy of yours can enter one of those regions without fighting you.

Hmm, I dunno, I had imagined these as role-playing elements. The first one I can see warranted as a gameplay element, perhaps even an requirement before you can attack.
But, I think including the other two will just give you more work, without really adding anything any benefits. I think keeping simple options like these for "talking smack" will make it easier to get started.

Or, maybe I missed something about Casus Belli, is it something that is required in order to go to war?

Casus Belli will give you a little bonus in movement and battle. The thought was that they'd often be aquiered through the desicions you take. Actually, when I think about it there should be a Casus Belli for the defenders as well. So what if if the defender has a seperate Casus Belli on the attaker, then they'll also get the bonus? We could of course make it a requierment though, which is sort of what a Casus Belli really is.

Interesting. If it will be a requirement, then I imagine the defence pacts will turn europe gunpowder, just waiting to explode. But, how will the first attack happen?

On the other hand I want to get this game started :D
To begin with, this round, perhaps you can just decide if Casus Belli is in effect (and bonuses given) if/when a nation attacks another.

I thought Casus Bellis would at random times be given through Desicion of the Day. That's at least what I'm planning :)

All Paradox Interactive strategy games have a lot in common and Victoria 2 is the only one I own ;) And 1850 falls into the time span of Vic2!
